IN ENGLISH: Berlin
is an unlikely place for American acoustic roots music, but that is
where The New Prohibition Band has called home since July of
2007. Some followed love, some followed music, and at least one
didn’t see eye to eye with the local sheriff back home.
Steeped in the acoustic roots and bewitching mountain harmonies
of the American backwoods, The New Prohibition Band tip their hats to
tradition while forging their own songs with a fresh and personal
perspective. Their set mixes old ballads of love, murder,
lawlessness, and betrayal with original, intimate songs about whiskey,
troubles, solidarity, and of course the New Prohibition.
WARNING: they have also been known launch into barn-burning dance
tunes without provocation.
AUF DEUTSCH: Berlin ist eine
ungewöhnliche Stadt für amerikanische akoustische
‘roots’ Musik, doch genau dort ist die Heimat der New
Prohibition Band seit Juli 2007. Einige folgten der Liebe, einige
der Musik, und mindestens einer war mit seinem Sheriff zu Hause nicht
einverstanden. Durchdrungen von akustischer Roots-Musik und
einnehmenden Harmonien der Bergmusik des amerikanischen Hinterlandes,
zollt The New Prohibition Band der Tradition Ihren Respekt, nicht ohne
VORSICHT: The New Prohibition Band kann auch
jederzeit und ohne Vorwarnung mit einem Tanzlied die Scheune zum
Brennen bringen.

 | Cera Impala: banjo,
vocals
Cera is the band’s fast-frailing
banjo mama, and is responsible for many of TNPB’s unique and
passionate compositions. She was formerly the guitarist with the
popular Northwest US band, "The Blackberry Bushes," and also fronts "The
Cera Impala Project," another outlet for her prolific songwriting.
Cera studied Performing Arts at Sarah Lawrence College in NY, New York
and The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, and brings her
consummate professionalism to every rehearsal and performance. | | "Dr." Dirk Ronneburg: fiddle, vocals
A
hopeless addict of American acoustic roots music, Dirk has made it his
mission to bring this music to Germany and to all of
Europe since moving to Berlin in 2007. In addition to his work
with TNPB, Dirk lends his
fiddling to "The Cera Impala Project," "Laura Bean & the
Vagabonds," "The Songdogs," and has been known to appear with numerous
other Berlin
bands. Before that he spent 4 years playing guitar and singing
with the "Head for the Hills Bluegrass Band" from Olympia, WA. He
also likes to perform solo acoustic roots blues on an old
resonator guitar. | | Maciek "Wonky" Jones: bass
Maciek
has been involved in so many musical projects throughout his life that
we can hardly remember them all, let alone list them here. He has
played for audiences of 10,000 (and more) and for audiences of only 10
(or less). In the 70’s he played with various assorted folk
rock and punk bands in Poland, then moved to Berlin where he spent the
80’s playing with countless more folk, punk, and bluegrass
bands. He spent most of the 90’s back in Poland playing in
the folk punk band "Jak Wolnosc To Wolnosc," finally returning to
Berlin to find himself playing in an operetta combo, a gypsy swing
band, and a bluegrass trio, which is where we found him. He
brings considerable experience and his very lively spirit to TNPB. |
